These fish are officially known as the ‘Lamprey’. They’re technically a sort of eel with teeth, but let’s call them ‘demonic water monsters’ because…well, you’ve seen them!

In the past week, residents of Fairbank, Alaska, have been finding these fish hanging out in some unusual places. Found on parking lots and lawns and other unusual places outside their natural habitat, it’s clear they’ve been dropped from the sky.

So, what are we looking at here – a new evolution of fish?

It appears these sea monsters have been picked up from the nearby Chena River by seagulls.

Presumably realising they’ve pecked off more than they can chew, they’ve gone on to drop these fish off into the city. Panic over.

The lessons here?

  • Seagulls are terrible birds
  • Don’t bite off more than you can chew
  • Expect the unexpected
  • Oh, and stay safe – wear an umbrella hat.
